Heartland Animal Shelter Hosting Open House and Lighting Ceremony
Sunday, December 11
3 p.m.- 6 p.m.

Wheeling, IL 60090
Visit Heartland Animal Shelter for a family-friendly holiday party and lighting ceremony. Activities begin at 3 p.m. and include photos with Santa and our animals, music, crafts, gifts for the pets, as well as a scavenger hunt, bake sale, and hot chocolate bar.
At 5:30 p.m., we will gather outside by candlelight for a lighting ceremony in honor or memory of a special animal. A choir from Stevenson High School will perform holiday favorites, and WGN Radio’s Steve Dale will treat us to a reading of the Rainbow Bridge Poem.
The finale will be the lighting of thousands of lights that will shine brightly on our shelter in honor and memory of our special friends. Lights can be purchased before or at the event.
The 20-year-old Heartland shelter opened a new facility in Wheeling in 2021. The Hearts Aglow Open House is the first opportunity for many families to visit the shelter and meet adoptable dogs and cats.

- Donate a minimum of $20 for tribute lights and you will receive a tribute card via email for
- yourself or to send to someone. (If you do not have an email listed – we will mail you a tribute card.)
- Donate a minimum of $60 for tribute lights and your tribute name(s) will be added to our website, listed in our next newsletter and you will receive a tribute card.
- Donate a minimum of $100 for tribute lights and your tribute name(s) will be read aloud at the event, added to our website, listed in our next newsletter and you will receive a tribute card.
- Donate a minimum of $500 for tribute lights and you will receive a personalized dog bone or fish plaque on our Donor Appreciation Wall, your tribute name(s) will be read aloud at the event, added to our website, listed in our next newsletter and you will receive a tribute card.
- Donate a minimum of $1,000 for tribute lights and you will become a member of the Giving Hearts Society (more information to follow), your tribute name(s) will be read aloud at the event, added to our website, listed in our next newsletter and you will receive a tribute card.
